Design Case Study 2 - Port Dramatic Bathroom

The Challenge
The client had a bathroom that was very simple and plain. While it had the black cabinet and the black tile liner, there wasn't much else to it. This is the guest bath/powder room for anyone who would visit her house and she felt that it needed to be very special, so her guests would feel pampered when they came over.

The Solution
We began by selecting the grass wallpaper to highlight the black in the cabinet and tiles. The grass wallpaper was only possible in a bathroom because the shower would rarely, if ever be used. To add drama, we painted the ceiling black as well, which caused the ceiling to appear much higher than when it was simply white. The visual focal point of the room is the shower curtain, and it had to be amazing. Again, because it was not to be used much, if at all, we were able to treat the curtain more like a window. The goal was simply to frame the shower. The client fell in love with the diamond fabric. By adding the valance with the diamond shape, we were able to provide texture, movement and elegance to the look. Using a contrasting border and tassels gave the striking final touch.

The Results

  • An elegant bathroom that gives guests a feeling of being pampered whenever they visit.
  • By using the elements of style already in the bathroom we were able to simply create finishing touches that provided high drama.
  • The client was thrilled with her guests bathroom and felt that she had truly developed something unique and interesting especially for the people who visit her.
