The Problem
My client had recently been widowed and wished to recreate herself. She felt this was her ‘\'butterfly time' and wanted her home environment to support that. Unfortunately, the butterfly fabric she had fallen in love with, was discontinued. Her main sense was that she wanted a lavender bedroom. She also needed to be careful with lifting or moving heavy objects. The bedroom closet was also tough in that it was a small space that needed to be light and yet secluded at the same time.
The Solution
The bedroom features a huge window that looks out over the beautiful Pasadena Arroyo, so we knew the window was a clear feature. I was actually able to find an even more attractive butterfly fabric via an ad in Architectural Digest. We immediately chose that as the valance for the window and pulled two different colors of purple to alternate the drapery panels, which created some surprise and elegance. While these drapes were stylish, they were also very heavy, so we came up with an electric wand solution, which allows the client to open and close the drapes with the click of a button. For the bedroom closet we found a unique stained glass treatment that allowed plenty of light into the room while still providing privacy. We were able to tie in the client's theme in with both elegance and a touch of whimsy.
The Results
- With careful research I was able to locate a key material for the design that the client had thought she would never be able to have, hence every time she looks at the valance she feels great.
- By using modern tools such as the electric curtain wand, we were able to not only make the client's life easier, but actually luxurious as she may now enjoy tremendous views from here windows with just the click of a button. She doesn't even have to get out of bed!
- The bedroom now gives the client joy and comfort at the same time. It is a place where the feels at one with herself and feels connected to her departed husband. She feels she finally has a place that is a reflection of her and that nourishes her every day.
