What is your specialty?
My
specialty is bringing your style to the forefront and making the home
look like you. I don’t work within one style. I appreciate a wide
variety of bautiful styles and would love to bring your home alive. I
accommodate your style, creating the room you would create if you had
the expertise, connections and resources. What I leave in the homes I
design is warmth, with a touch of elegance.
My husband and I can never agree on design, can you help us?
Yes,
I have done this many times. It’s a lot of fun finding the middle area
that will make both parties happy. When a couple’s project starts, one
of them is usually less interested while the other more involved. But
when I start finding that ‘sweet spot’ that touches both of their
personal styles, then the design process comes alive – and the results
become even more creative than would have been possible by themselves.
Can you see past the mess of my house and still design it?
Seeing
how you live in your home is important information to me, and an
important part of the design process. So, please do not be worried
about “the mess”. I am often called out when there is a great need for
change. I don’t see the mess. I am skilled at assessing rooms and
seeing the hidden possibilities. I do not expect your home to be
“perfect”. That is why you hired me.
What should I expect from the first visit?
The
first thing I like to do is to walk through your home so I can get a
sense of it. This is where I have received the nickname “House
Whisperer” because of the way I “listen” to your House. I also begin to
work with you on your vision for your house. Depending on the size of
the project, we may select paint colors or take measurements. As a
general rule, first appointments take approximately 2 hours.
Do I need to have pictures of what I want?
It
helps if you have pictures of ideas you like or objects you would like
to incorporate into the project. However, it’s not necessary. I will
ascertain a great deal of who you are and what your style is on our
first visit.
Do I have to do the whole house at once or can I do it one room at a time?
I
work with on your schedule. I am here to help you through the process
of changing your house, to make it easier and alleviate your stress.
Besides educating and guiding you, I can also project management for
you. It’s entirely your choice.
Do you have contractors you work with?
Yes,
I can refer contractors and tradesman for all aspects of home
renovation. In many cases, I can give you a few different ones to
select which one you wish to hire. If you have your own tradespeople, I
am happy to work with them as well. The key is that you are comfortable
with the people working on your home.
How long will the project take?
Each
project has its own timeline. How long it takes depends on the scale of
the project, how quickly you make decisions, contractors and delivery
time. Custom items can take up to 3 months from the time they are
ordered until they are delivered. If you have a time constraint,
it is best to tell me at the beginning so we can take that into
account. Rush jobs can be done within certain parameters.
How much will it to cost?
Budget
is always a concern. It is very important that I have an accurate idea
of your budget before we begin. Home décor is like clothes. You can buy
a dress at Old Navy for $15 or you can buy a designer dress for $1500
and there are a lot of prices in between. There are some items in your
home that don’t need to be fancy, however, that “perfect item” may make
all the difference in the room and you may chose to splurge on it. If
we find a piece that becomes a “must have”, we will then conserve on
something else. My goal is to find out which items are most important
to you and to create a home that you love to live in and reflects your
personality within your budget.
